The IA has great roots in Detroit. Local 812's sister local, Local 38, originated in 1895 during the dawn of the motion picture industry. Local 812 was chartered in 1947, during Detroit's golden area of production. At that time Detroit shot more film than any other city in the nation. This golden era formed a strong production backbone in the City of Detroit.
