Dear Family, Friends and Colleagues,
Your Holiday Purchase can Help Homeless Americans! It will cost you nothing to help! Bruce Springsteen, Sting, John Cougar Mellencamp, Arlo Guthrie and other Artists are already on board with us to support this "Give Us Your Poor Project" and are helping us with the donated use of their music. Border's of Michigan is sponsoring a major GUYP fundraising event December 6-8, 2002. Here's a little background... One Arts Inc. is a Michigan 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation (www.onearts.org) founded in 1999 by Academy Award-Winning Producer/Director, Pamela Conn, and me (Jeffrey M Jones). One Arts has partnered with The McCormack Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Massachusetts Boston in the production of "Give Us Your Poor: Homelessness and the United States" (www.giveusyourpoor.org), a national project aimed at dramatically reducing the numbers of homeless in America. The project includes: A feature length film for Public Television Curricula on homelessness for middle schools and high schools in the United States Community Action Forums Below, find an email letter from UMass Boston GUYP Project Director, John McGah. Thanks! Jeffrey M. Jones C.A.S. Technical Producer "Designing and Defining Excellence" One Arts Inc. Homelessness is an increasing public tragedy. 3.5 million Americans are without a home of their own. 1.3 million of these Americans are homeless children. You can help turn this situation around as you make your holiday purchases, without spending any extra money. Borders Books and Music in Michigan is teaming with UMass Boston and Michigan 501(c)3 not-for-profit Corporation, One Arts Inc. to support Give Us Your Poor (www.giveusyourpoor.com), a national project directed at ending homelessness in America. This project aims to reach the widest possible audience to dispel myths, explore causes, find solutions, and to stimulate community action. By supporting Give Us Your Poor: Homelessness & the United States, through your Holiday Book, Music, and Video purchase, you are joining other supporters including Bruce Springsteen, John Cougar Mellencamp, Sting, Arlo Guthrie, the National Coalition for the Homeless, the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, and many other people, some of whom are also well-known homeless and housed, who wish to better address the ideals of our nation as it relates to the 3.5 million Americans who are homeless this year. Here's how you can help, as you make your holiday purchases: (1) If you live in Michigan, please visit one of the 16 Michigan Borders stores on Dec. 6, 7, or 8, 2002, and ask for a voucher at the time of your purchase. (2) Visit the Give Us Your Poor/Borders Website: http://www.giveusyourpoor.org/BordersEvent/BordersEvent.html (You'll find phone numbers for phone order shoppers, store hours, and vouchers for Michigan shoppers) (3) If you can't visit one of the Michigan Borders stores, then on Dec. 6, 7, or 8, 2002 call one of the Michigan store numbers listed on the web and indicate that "I would like my purchase to support the Give Us Your Poor project to help end homelessness." Place your order with a major credit card and allow 7 to 10 days for delivery. You can increase your support for the Give Us Your Poor: Homelessness & the United States project, by sending this e-mail to 5 of your friends and ask them to do their Holiday Book, Music and Video shopping on Dec 6, 7, 8 through the Michigan Borders stores. On behalf of the hundreds of people involved with the Give Us Your Poor project around the U.S., I wish you a peaceful holiday season, and sincere thanks for your help and for remembering the many in our community who can't go home for the holidays. - John McGah, Project Director OneArts is a not-for-profit organization created to develop and produce entertaining and educational projects based in any artistic medium which will help a global audience understand that we are all one people living as neighbors on one finite planet. OneArts was born of a desire to help the Earth and all those who live on her thrive. To do something practical to give our children's children a peaceful and balanced world. Of the myriad ways to accomplish this end, OneArts has chosen education through the Arts. It's what we know and what we love. And we believe its the best way to inform and transform a wildly diverse world populace. To overcome seemingly insurmountable barriers of language and culture. When all the people of Earth can see our planet as not only amazingly powerful, but alarmingly fragile and view each other not as strangers, but neighbors whose differences are just wonderful and mysterious things to learn about, we humans will be able to build a future world, healthy and vibrant, for untold generations to come. It's what we're working toward at One Arts. Creating the world of the future through the world of the Arts. Let us live in peace and harmony to keep the land and all life in balance.
